Couples Therapy for Infidelity Recovery
in Oregonia, Ohio,
and Online
The fallout from betrayal is deeply disorienting. While every relationship faces its own distinct set of circumstances after an affair, the feelings of shock, confusion, and grief are universal.
I do not believe in cookie-cutter solutions. I meet every couple exactly where they are, designing a customized roadmap tailored to your specific needs, history, and goals.
Treating the Relationship as the Client
In my practice, my primary allegiance is to the relationship itself. My role is to advocate for what is best for your partnership.
Early in our work together, we will explore what each of you needs and hopes to achieve. Couples come to therapy at various stages of clarity:
-
Rebuilding: Many couples arrive with a shared commitment to heal, repair, and recreate their marriage.
-
Discerning: Others are caught in a space of deep uncertainty, unsure if staying together is the right choice. I provide a calm space to help you make deliberate, thoughtful decisions about your future.
-
Parting Amicably: If you ultimately decide to end the partnership, I help you navigate the dissolution of the marriage with rationality, respect, and dignity.

Our Initial Road Map: The Four-Session Structure
Healing requires a deliberate, structured framework. To build a steady foundation for your recovery, our initial work follows a specific sequence:
Session 1: The 90-Minute Joint Intake
Because there is a wealth of history to understand, our first meeting is extended. The goal is to stabilize the immediate crisis, understand your unique dynamics, clarify your objectives, and provide immediate insight into the mechanics of infidelity trauma. Clients frequently leave this first hour and a half with a new sense of direction and hope.
Sessions 2 & 3: Individual 60-Minute Sessions
I meet with each partner individually for one session. This allows me to gain a broader understanding of the situation by learning each partner’s perspective. It also gives me an opportunity to support each partner and understand their individual needs.
Session 4: The 60-Minute Alignment Session
We reconvene in a couples session. I will share my clinical insights from our first three sessions and outline the path forward. You will receive practical guidance on what to practice between sessions and how to support one another through the healing journey.
Moving Forward
After this initial phase, you are in the driver's seat. This is your therapeutic journey. Many couples choose weekly sessions at first. As confidence grows and difficult conversations become easier to manage at home, frequency often tapers to every two or three weeks, eventually transitioning to occasional check-ins.
The more dedicated you are to doing the work outside the therapy room, the less you will need to rely on me.
Four Predictors of Success
When assessing a couple's capacity to heal from an affair, I look for four essential characteristics that indicate a high probability of recovery:
A Strong Foundation: Is there a history of genuine love, friendship, and mutual respect to build upon?
Humility: Can both partners look inward and admit their own mistakes? This means taking responsibility for your role in the cracks in the relationship. Note: Accountability for relationship breakdown is entirely separate from the choice to commit infidelity. A betrayed partner may own their part in marital distress, but they are never to blame for the affair.
Human Compassion: Can both partners view each other as flawed human beings who are also worthy and capable of growth?
Mutual Commitment: Are you both willing to do the heavy lifting required for personal evolution and relationship repair? It takes two active participants to rebuild a marriage after betrayal.

Areas of Focus in Couples Therapy
Throughout our time together, our work will center on:

Crisis Stabilization: Calming the initial storm of anger and panic so you can think clearly and function daily.
Clinical Education: Demystifying the psychology of betrayal so you understand what to expect during the recovery timeline.
Uncovering the "Why": Analyzing the systemic vulnerabilities that allowed the affair to happen, which is critical to ensuring it never happens again.
Emotional Reconnection: Engaging in structured "homework" exercises designed to foster empathy, revive intimacy, and intentionally rebuild the friendship side of your bond.
Intentional Decision-Making: Unpacking complex feelings to help you confidently choose the future of your relationship.
Constructive Communication: Replacing destructive patterns with tools that promote active listening, emotional safety, and mutual respect.
Rebuilding Trust: Following a deliberate roadmap to slowly and securely earn back shattered trust.
Designing the Future: In affair recovery, we acknowledge that the old version of your marriage is gone. Together, we work to build a brand-new, more resilient relationship from the ground up.
A Specialized Approach to Healing
As a dedicated Infidelity Recovery Specialist, I understand the unique paradox of this crisis:
Two people are enduring the exact same traumatic event, but experiencing it from entirely opposite perspectives. My job is to bridge that gap without taking sides, ensuring both of you feel profoundly heard.
My Therapeutic Philosophy: I operate with a warm, direct, and non-judgmental style. I call things as I see them and provide authentic feedback on what actually works in affair recovery. I firmly believe that true recovery requires addressing the trauma of the affair and rebuilding the relationship simultaneously.
If you choose to stay and put in the work, the ultimate goal is to build a relationship that is stronger, deeper, and more fulfilling than the one you had before. There are many valid reasons to fight for your partnership—your children, your shared history, the life you've spent years constructing. If you are choosing to stay, let’s do the work to make your relationship truly great.
